If you own one of these recalled office chairs from Office Depot® you are not only at risk of falling on your keister, but could also suffer serious injuries if the seat breaks off.
Office Depot is recalling its Gibson Leather Task Chairs after receiving more than 153 reports of a failure of the seat plate weld that can cause the seat to break off and separate from the base. In addition to reports of bruises and abrasions from falls, some people suffered head and neck injuries, and a fractured back and hip that required medical treatment.
These Gibson Leather Task Chairs are black, armless chairs attached to a black base with five wheels. Consumers can identify the recalled chairs by locating a printed label affixed to the underside of the seat. Chairs with a SKU number 105479 and the registration numbers PA 27248 (CN), PA 25498 (CN), PA 25276 (HK) or CA 35181 (RC) are affected by this recall.
If you confirm your chair is recalled, stop using it immediately and return it to any Office Depot retail store for a $55 store credit.
The Office Depot Gibson Leather Task Chair has been a popular item, with about 1,400,000 sold in the company’s retail stores and online between 2003 and 2012 for about $40 each.
Office Depot, along with its Swinton Avenue Trading, imported the chairs from various manufacturers in China and Taiwan.
