Vornado Space Heaters Recalled Due to Fire Risk

If you own a Vornado Whole Room Vortex electric space heater, be aware that certain units are recalled because they pose a fire and burn hazard.

With summer temperatures in the 90’s, the last thing on the mind is space heaters. But soon the weather will turn cool and many people will pull their space heaters out of storage. It is a good habit to ensure space heaters are in good working order and not the subject of a space heater recall.

According to a release by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Vornado Air, LLC is recalling 79,000 Vornado Whole Room Vortex electric space heaters after receiving 29 reports of the product overheating. In seven cases, the product caught on fire. There was a report of property damaged by soot and smoke and one report of a person who suffered smoke inhalation due to the defective space heater.

Consumers may have purchased a Vornado space heater from Target, Home Depot, Bed Bath & Beyond, Menards, Orchard Supply or other retail stores nationwide, or online from Vornado.com or Amazon.com, between June 2013 and May 2014. They sold for about $60.

The recalled Vornado Whole Room Vortex electric space heaters are either black or white in color and have a circular-shaped vent with a Vornado logo in the center on the front of the unit. Consumers should locate a silver decal on the bottom of the heater and look for the model number VH110 and a serial number with a 1 and 3 in the fourth and fifth digit positions. Immediately discontinue use and unplug any Vornado VH110 space heater with these serial numbers.
