Sevier County Humane Society Extends Thursday Hours

Pet adoption will soon be a more convenient with the local animal shelter open later on Thursday evenings.

The Sevier County Humane Society has announced plans to extend Thursday hours until 7:00 p.m. to better serve the public.

To celebrate, the animal shelter is holding an “Open Late Adoption Event” on Thursday, August 21st from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with refreshments, door prizes and adoption specials. For all dog adoptions, the shelter is cutting the adoption fee in half and including a free bag of dog food. If you are looking for a kitten, adopt two kittens for the price of one and receive a free bag of cat food and litter. The shelter is also giving each adopter a surprise gift. Everyone is invited to come out to the event and support the shelter, even if they are not ready to adopt a pet.

They will be accepting monetary donations as well as donations of bleach and blue Dawn dish soap for a special shelter cleaning event next Sunday and Monday.

Personnel will be on hand to provide information on the low cost dog & cat spay/neuter program. The next low cost spay and neuter event is scheduled for Monday, September 8. Advance registration is required. Call 865 680 5701 or 865-453-7000 for more information.

Plans are in the works for a new shelter facility off Newport Highway where the organization has purchased a 10-acre parcel of vacant land. However, they must first raise one million dollars to fund the project. Donate to the Building Fund in person at the shelter, by mailing a check or donate online through the shelter website.

The Sevier County Humane Society is located just off the “Spur” between Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge at 959 Gnatty Branch Rd. in Sevierville. New shelter hours will be Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday 12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Thursday 12:00 p.m. – 7:00. Closed Sunday and Monday.
