Pigeon Forge Police Department Offering Citizens’ Police Academy

If you have ever wondered about the daily work of a police officer, the Pigeon Forge Police Department is holding a Citizens’ Police Academy where you can learn directly from the men and women serving in the department.

The Pigeon Forge Police Department is now accepting applications for its 15th Citizens’ Police Academy. Course classes will be held weekly, 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. every Tuesday evening beginning February 3, 2015 and running through the last week in April.

The Citizens’ Police Academy gives participants a greater understanding of police department programs and operations through a combination of classroom instruction and interactive exercises. In addition to building a strong relationship between the police department and members of the community, the academy offers a look at the real-life duties of a police officer for anyone who might be considering a career in law enforcement.

Pigeon Forge Police Department Citizens’ Police Academy class subjects include:

  • Touring the Pigeon Forge Police Department
  • Patrol/Traffic Communications
  • FTO (Field Training Officer) Program
  • D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) Program
  • Building Search
  • Meth Awareness and Narcotics Operations
  • Hazardous Devices
  • Canine Operations
  • TRU (Tactical Rescue Unit) Operations
  • Criminal Investigations
  • Accident Investigations
  • Domestic Violence
  • Firing Range
  • Vehicle Stops
  • DUI Enforcement

Participants must be 21 years of age or older. Applications are available at the Pigeon Forge Police Department, 225 Pine Mountain Road in Pigeon Forge, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The application deadline is January 16, 2015.
