New Tennessee Birding Trails Website Directs Bird Watchers to Sevier County

Tennessee has a new website to help bird watchers find good locations for birding across the state, including places here in Sevier County.

The Tennessee Birding Trails website, launched this month by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA), details 130 of the best places in the state for bird watching and has in-depth profiles for many of the bird species seen here. For Sevier County, the website includes Seven Islands State Birding Park in Kodak and Great Smoky Mountains National Park as birding hotspots.

“The new website is designed to be simple and user-friendly so users can find bird watching locations and information on each site with little effort,” said TWRA ornithologist Scott Somershoe, who headed the Birding Trails project. “Birders can search for places to go birding using four different search options, including region of the state, specific species that birders often seek out in Tennessee, by species group and by season.”

The website also has links directly back to the Tennessee Watchable Wildlife website, which is dedicated to conservation and viewing of birds, mammals, amphibians, reptiles and insects of Tennessee.

If you find the sites useful, or wish to support TWRA conservation efforts, please consider making a donation. Contributions to the Watchable Wildlife Endowment Fund help maintain and develop these websites, and make conservation projects possible.

Tennessee Birding Trails will be a great resource for local bird watchers, as well tourists visiting from elsewhere who may not be familiar with the great birding locations Tennessee and Sevier County have to offer.
