Dolly Parton’s Dixie Stampede 2015 Season Opens

Renovated Dixie Stampede Reopens to Sold Out Shows

Dixie Stampede began its 28th season this weekend by unveiling a spectacular new show to a sold out crowd.

Dixie Stampede in Pigeon Forge opened on Friday, Feb. 13 and the public, eager to see the new 2015 show snapped up tickets so fast the attraction added additional performances to meet the demand.

Earlier this year, Dixie Stampede announced it would replace the southern mansion backdrop so long a fixture of the show with one that would “come to life.” The new backdrop is made of more than 12 million LED lights whose video imagery transports the audience to scenic vistas across the United States as each act of the show changes. The renovations also include a new state of the art theatrical lighting and sound system. The company spent more than 2 million dollars on the upgrade, which is the largest investment in the show since it opened in 1988.

For locals and visitors to the area who return to Dixie Stampede year after year, the renovation and show changes have been much anticipated. Tickets for this weekend’s shows sold out so quickly that Dixie Stampede added two more show times on Saturday and one at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.

The 2015 Dixie Stampede show also features a patriotic finale set to the music of “Color Me America,” a song written and recorded by Dolly Parton after the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.

If you want to see the new backdrop in action, I have a little sneak peek:

There are quite a few new acts in the show too. However, fans of Dixie Stampede will happy to learn that the North vs. South theme and the fantastic four-course feast remain part of the show.
