Sevierville Family Loses Home to Fire

The Gibson family is counting their blessings and staying with family tonight after a fire destroyed their home.

The Gatlinburg Fire Department received a call at 3:30 p.m. today for a house fire on S. Boogertown Rd. in Sevierville and arrived first on the scene. The Pigeon Forge Fire Department and Catons Chapel Richardson Cove Volunteer Fire Department also responded.

According to Bobby Gibson, he and his family came home this afternoon to find flames shooting out the bathroom window and smoke billowing from the roof of their manufactured home. They called 911 and were able to rescue two dogs and two cats from inside the home before the smoke became unbearable.

Fire personnel used water supplied from their tanker to get control of the fire within about ten minutes, but remained on the scene putting out hot spots and dispersing the smoke with a fan until about 5:30 p.m. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

No one was hurt in the fire.

The fire appeared to have started in or near the bathroom and burned through a bathroom, laundry area, bedroom and hallway of the home. The remainder of the home suffered damage from extreme heat and smoke, melting plastics such as the television and covering everything in thick black soot. It is unlivable and un-repairable.

“I need prayers because I’ve lost everything I own,” said Kimberly Gibson. “But I have my babies and my family is ok.”

Friends have set up a Facebook Page titled Help the Gibson Family in Sevierville after House Fire to communicate the family’s needs.

There is also a fundraiser at http://www.gofundme.com/odw87w to raise money to help the family get into another home.
