Sevier County Humane Society Looking for Puppy & Kitten Fosters

Spring is not even here yet and the Sevier County Humane Society is already in need of fosters for puppies and kittens.

The Sevier County Humane Society’s Fosters for Furry Friends is looking for puppy or kitten foster care volunteers for their expanding foster care program. While dogs and cats reproduce year round, shelters typically see a large influx of puppies and kittens between early spring and fall.

If you care about animals and want to help, please consider signing up to participate in this program. Foster care is life saving for some animals and a critical component to the Humane Society’s adoption process. Offering a temporary home to puppies or kittens not yet old enough to be adopted, or fostering a dog or cat going through rehabilitation after an injury or illness, is very rewarding.

“A foster program goes a long way towards getting more animals into permanent, loving homes,” according to Sevier County Humane Society President, Martha Gilchrist.

Fosters for Furry Friends volunteers provide day-to-day care for the pet, including food, housing and transportation to vet appointments, but most importantly, they are responsible for the general wellbeing and socialization of the pet until they can be placed for adoption.

For questions on how to be a part of this life saving program or to register as a foster parent please call Lida O’Neill at (865) 453-2028.

Remember, the greatest thing people can do to help shelter animals is to spay or neuter their pet. The Sevier County Humane Society has a low cost spay and neuter program called SPOT (Stop Pet Overpopulation Today), which altered over 1000 Sevier County pets in 2014 and is hard at work providing low cost spay and neuter events this year. If you have a dog or cat that has not yet been fixed, please call (865) 453-7000 for an appointment today. Assistance for low-income families is available.
