Sevierville Fire Dept. Checks Proper Installation, Safety of Child Car Seats on Saturday

Join the Sevierville Fire Department on Saturday in an effort to keep children as safe as possible while riding in a car by having child car seats inspected.

The City of Sevierville Fire Department has scheduled a Child Car Safety Seat Inspection from 2-5 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at the Main Station, 122 Prince St. in downtown Sevierville.

Nationally, over 90% of child car seats are improperly installed. In fact, over 40% of child fatalities in traffic accidents are due to improperly installed child car seats. Inspectors have also learned that many child car seats are no longer safe due to past accidents, the age of the seat, manufacturer car seat recalls or missing parts.

Certified Sevierville Fire Department technicians will be available to perform inspections of child car seats, demonstrate proper installation techniques and offer general assistance.

Sevierville Fire Department firefighters will also be available to provide fire safety tips, demonstrate proper use of fire extinguishers and installation of smoke alarms.
