Students Arrested in Seymour School Burglaries

Police have arrested four students in connection with burglaries at two Seymour schools.

The Sevier County Sheriff’s Office announced that four students are facing two counts of burglary and criminal trespassing after two Seymour schools were burglarized in the early morning hours on Sunday, March 29, 2015.

According to Sevier County Sheriff Ron Seals, his office received a call at about 6:40 a.m. on Monday from Seymour Intermediate School stating that a burglary had occurred sometime over the weekend. Officers responded and found that intruders gained entry to the school through a door in the kitchen area and stole several food items and approximately $3 in loose change.

Just after 8 a.m., officers responded to a second call at Seymour High School to find it had also been burglarized. Entry had been made through a window. Thieves stole calculators, $30 from the library and other miscellaneous items.

Detectives reviewed video surveillance footage from security cameras at both schools, which showed four individuals involved in the burglaries. Sheriff’s Office School Resource officers and school officials identified the individuals as students at Seymour High School. At the time of the investigation, two of the suspects were in class at Seymour High School, one was at the Hardin A.L.C. and another was at his home.

A release by the department said all four juveniles gave incriminating statements when interviewed by detectives. It was determined the burglaries took place at about 2 a.m. on Sunday. Police arrested all four students on Monday morning. They were incarcerated that the Sevier County Juvenile Center. A hearing date will be set in Sevier County Juvenile Court.

All persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
