WCU Economist Dr. Steven Morse to Speak on Tourism at Joint Hospitality Association Meeting

Dr. Steven Morse, an economist with Western Carolina University, will address the Sevier County hospitality and tourism industry on Thursday, April 9, 2015.

Morse will speak at the monthly luncheon of the Pigeon Forge Hospitality Association in conjunction with the Sevier County Hospitality Alliance. The meeting is open to anyone in the Sevier County hospitality and tourism industry. Lunch is $20.

“Dr. Morse will speak on Sevier County Tourism and how we measured up with other competing vacation destinations like Branson, Myrtle Beach and Panama City over recent years. He will also give us a forecast for 2015,” said Sevier County Lodging Alliance President Christie Connatser “We are all excited to hear how Sever County preformed as a whole in 2014 and we are certainly interested to hear what’s in store for the remainder of 2015.”

The meeting is at the Holiday Inn Convention Center in Pigeon Forge. Registration and networking will begin at 11 a.m. with the meeting to follow at 11:30 a.m.

“Tourism is the foundation of our economy in Sevier County and all of us in the hospitality industry are excited about the coming years,” Connatser said. “We are working more cooperatively on a local and state level to grow tourism and when we work together we are much more successful in competing with other tourism destinations.”
