Sevierville Police Seek Matthew Shumate for Armed Robbery, Request Public’s Help

UPDATE: Sevierville Police Department detectives arrested Matthew L. Shumate in Jefferson County on Sunday, April 26, 2015.

Sevierville Police Department detectives have identified and charged a Sevierville man in connection with the reported apartment armed robbery at the Windy Creek Apartments that occurred Wednesday, April 22, 2015.

Arrest warrants have been obtained for 22-year old Matthew L. Shumate for especially aggravated kidnapping; aggravated robbery; and aggravated burglary.

Detectives are requesting help from the public to locate Mr. Shumate. Anyone with information pertaining to his whereabouts is asked to contact Sevierville Police Department Detective Lt. Sam Hinson at 865-868-1751 or your local law enforcement agency. Police warn that Shumate is considered armed and dangerous, advising citizens not to contact him in any manner.

All persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
