Lots of 4-H Camp Opportunities Available

Deadlines are fast approaching for 2015 4-H camp opportunities. Openings are still available for the following events. Applications are available online at http://sevier.tennessee.edu/ click on 4-H Youth Programs for access to 4-H camp applications. You may also visit the 4-H Office at 752 Old Knoxville Hwy. in Sevierville or call 453-3695.

Traditional 4-H Camp – July 6 – 10, 2015 in Greeneville, Tenn.

Junior High Camp (7th – 8th grades); Cost: $290.00. Theme: “4-H Survivor – Get Your Adventure On!”

Back to Nature – Junior Master Gardener Camp – June 3-4, 2015  

Explore the rugged beauty of nature in our own Smoky Mountains! This 2-day, overnight camp will be held at Bridgemont Camp off of Wears Valley Road. Backing up to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the wildlife, both flora and fauna, are abundant and we will use our expert master gardeners to explore it all. Learn about our native plants; plants and animals that are invasive to the area; crafts and games always included. Campfire cooking, sleeping in a cabin, and hiking to the park are few of the highlights of this camp. All meals are included in the overnight registration, and lunches only in the day-camp option. Available to students grades 4th through 8th. Cost: $50. Day camp option available for $40.00

Sew Much Fun Week – June 15 – 17, 2015

Learn basic sewing skills at this day camp, from 8 a.m. to noon, June 15 – 17, 2015 at the Sevier County High School Vocational Center. Cost is $15.00. Available for current 5th grade and up 4-H members.

Keep Sevier Beautiful Day Camp #1 – June 17, 2015

Join Keep Sevier Beautiful for a day of making recycled crafts. Participants will learn to make a rug and a basket from recycled materials. Will also get up and move with a few game activities. This will be a day of creative fun! 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the 4-H Office. Cost: $5.00

Keep Sevier Beautiful Day Camp #2 – June 18, 2015

Join Keep Sevier Beautiful as we make an angel out of plastic bags and go on a scavenger hunt. We will also make a t-shirt bag and learn an easy way of tie dying to decorate their bag. Join us for a creative day of fun! For additional information contact Karen Miller (cell: 419-569-0316) or email: kmiller@keepsevierbeautiful.org 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the 4-H Office. Cost: $5.00

Photography – June 19, 2015

9 a.m. – 1 p.m. 4-H members will learn basic photography skills; explore photography techniques and career opportunities from a professional. Cost: $5.00

4-H Chef Camp – June 22 – 25, 2015

9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day at the Rel Maples Culinary Institute at Walters State Community College Sevierville Campus. Chef Camp is open to 6th – 12th grade 4-H members. At Chef Camp, 4-H members will learn hands-on cooking techniques, food safety and explore the adventures of tasting and preparing exciting foods. Chef Camp participants will also prepare and serve a meal for the needy through the Smoky Mountain Area Rescue Ministry and prepare rolls and brownies that will be distributed through the Sevier County Food Ministry. Participants will prepare their lunch each day. Cost: $85.00

Opportunities are still available to provide funding for 4-H Camp Scholarships. Gifts to the Erica Manning 4-H Camp Scholarship Fund are tax deductible and can be sent to Sevier County 4-H, 752 Old Knoxville Highway, Sevierville, TN 37862. Checks should be made out to the TN 4-H Foundation.
