Gatlinburg Farmers Market Kicks Off Kids Day, Accepts EBT

Join us at the Gatlinburg Farmers Market for our first Kids Day of the 2015 season on May 23. Kids will able to participate in a free activity offered at 9 a.m., 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Families can also have fun finding items on a market-wide scavenger hunt. May 23 is also the first day that the Gatlinburg Farmers Market will be accepting EBT.

“We are extremely excited about this market season, as we start a few new things at the market. As of May 23 we will be accepting EBT/SNAP. Come to the Market booth to find out how it works. We are also going to have a great line up of special events every second Saturday and a Kids Day every fourth Saturday of the month. Our special events will be a Health, Nutrition, and Sustainable Living Day, a Cooking Demonstration Day, a Canning and Food Preservation Day, a Seed Swap Day and an Apple Festival. For our Kids’ Days, kids will be able to participate in a free activity and enjoy a market wide scavenger hunt. These Kids’ activities will be fun but will also help children learn where food comes from and how to connect with real food. While we look forward to sharing these new things, we are most excited to have all of our vendors and community back together for another great season,” says Joanne Overstreet, president of the Gatlinburg Farmers Market.

The Gatlinburg Farmers Market still has some openings for vendors and internships. We have four internships available. “We are pleased to offer young adults and youths the opportunity to intern with us this summer. These will be fun and rewarding experiences, while helping us support family farmers, strengthen community ties, and promote healthy living,” Overstreet continued.

Volunteers are always welcome too. Please visit the website for vendor and intern applications at www.gatlinburgfarmersmarket.com or call 865-332-4769 for more information about the market.

The Gatlinburg Farmers Market is held every Saturday, May 16 through Oct 17, 2015 from 8:30 a.m. until 12 p.m. at the Covered Bridge in the Arts and Crafts Community, 849 Glades Road in of Gatlinburg, Tenn. Vendors provide fruits and vegetables, meats, eggs, honey, prepared foods, baked goods, artisanal products, and arts and crafts demonstrations. Come get local with us!
