5K Race to Honor Fallen Gatlinburg Police Officer, Fund Scholarship

The Jerry Huskey Memorial 5K will be held this month to honor Officer Jerry Dean Huskey of the Gatlinburg Police Department, who was killed in the line of duty on June 14, 1975.

Gatlinburg Community Police Programs is hosting the race event. Funds raised will benefit the newly established Jerry Dean Huskey Memorial Scholarship Program, which will offer a $500 dollar scholarship to Gatlinburg Pittman High School students beginning with the class of 2016. Funds will also go toward community outreach programs and activities. Gatlinburg Community Police Programs, a non-profit organization, sponsors an annual Easter Egg Hunt and summer camp for kids, provides Christmas dinner and gifts for needy in the community, and offers emergency assistance to stranded visitors and citizens in need.

The Jerry Huskey Memorial 5K will start 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2015 from the Gatlinburg Police Headquarters, 1230 East Parkway in Gatlinburg, Tenn. Entry fee is $25 plus a $2.50 processing fee and participants can register online.
