Park Reopens Cosby Road and Campground after Flood Repairs

Great Smoky Mountains National Park officials reopened the Cosby entrance road, campground, and picnic area this morning. The area has been closed due to flood damage since June 22, 2015 when flash flooding along Rock Creek spilled over the banks.

Park maintenance crews cleared rocks and debris from the roadway and repaired over 1,000 feet of road shoulders where the shoulder areas had been washed out up to 6 feet deep, exposing underground utility lines. All electric and water services have been restored.

For more information on road and trail closures, please visit the park website at http://www.nps.gov/grsm/planyourvisit/temproadclose.htm.
