The Congers Performing Mountain Dulcimer Concert in Gatlinburg

Trinity Episcopal Church in Gatlinburg is hosting a free concert by renowned mountain dulcimer players Larry and Elaine Conger.

Larry was crowned National Mountain Dulcimer Champion in 1998. He has authored several dulcimer books and has numerous recordings to his credit, including contributions to the compilation CDs “Great Players of the Mountain Dulcimer” and “Masters of the Mountain Dulcimer” Vol. 2, which feature many of today’s top dulcimer artists.

Elaine is a professional music educator and Orff-Schulwerk specialist who in her career has toured with her own country band; directed, accompanied and starred in numerous musical theater productions; and toured as a pianist and back-up vocalist for country music artist Faith Hill.

Larry and Elaine are directors of Dulcimer U, a mountain dulcimer education program at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, N.C. They operate a music studio in their hometown of Paris, Tenn. where they offer music instruction on a variety of instruments, including the mountain dulcimer.

The Congers will perform Appalachian music, hymns, and songs from well-known artists such as The Everly Brothers and Patsy Cline on the mountain dulcimer at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 17, 2015 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 509 Historic Nature Trail (light 8) in Gatlinburg, Tenn.

Admission is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served in the parish hall after the concert.
