UT Extension Offers Diabetic and Gluten Free Nutrition Programs

UT Extension will be partnering with the UT Healthy Living Kitchen and Food City to present nutrition programs for Diabetes and Gluten Free. Registered Dietician will share information, answer questions, as well as provide taste samples of recipes.

On Wednesday, March 23, 2016, the program Tips for Eating with Diabetes will be presented at the UT Extension Office in Sevierville. Registered Dieticians, Jane Kelly and Janet Seiber, with UT Medical Center, will simplify carbohydrate counting and making healthy food choices. This program will be held from 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. at the Extension Office. This is sponsored by Food City. There will be no charge to attend the class, but reservations are needed.

Elizabeth Hall, Food City Registered Dietician, will co-partner to present a Gluten Free Cooking Program on April 19, 2016 at the UT Extension Office. She will address the need for gluten free as well as suggestions for shopping and cooking. Recipe samples will be provided, therefore a fee of $5 will be charged for participants. Pre-registration is requested. Class will be held from 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

On May 17, a Gluten Free Grocery Tour will be led by the UT Healthy Living Kitchen Dieticians at a local Food City Grocery Store from 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Through this tour, participants will learn more about reading labels and selection criteria for gluten free products. There is no charge for this tour, but pre-registrations is required.
