Historic Ogle Cabin Moving to Make Way for Anakeesta Village

A flurry of activity has begun at the Anakeesta Village development on the Parkway in Gatlinburg as the site is prepared for construction. During the month of March, Layman Construction Company and House Movers carefully prepared the historic Ogle Cabin for relocation to the City of Gatlinburg Welcome Center on the Parkway.

The evening of Wednesday, April 20, 2016, after much coordination with local officials, the historic Ogle Cabin will be lifted and moved.

“Like the historic Watson Clinic building that was donated and relocated to the Pittman Center, and the Arrowcraft building relocated earlier this month, the historic Ogle Cabin will be preserved,” said developer, Bob Bentz.

In 1807, Widow Martha Jane Huskey Ogle, with her five sons and two daughters, her brother, Peter Huskey, and his family relocated to the cabin to start a new life in the area. In 1910, great grandson Andrew Ogle and his family were the last of the Ogle family to live in the cabin.

The Ogle cabin was officially donated to the City of Gatlinburg during a key ceremony in October 2015. The Ogle cabin will be relocated to a site adjoining the City’s Welcome Center near the McMahon parking garage on the Parkway.

In April of 2015 the City of Gatlinburg approved the initial site plan for Anakeesta Village. Plans are underway for more than 50,000 SF of retail space with sites for restaurants, entertainment venues and retail shops. Additionally, an aerial lift is being built to connect Gatlinburg visitors to the aerial adventure park on Anakeesta Mountain, AerialQuest, located on the 70 acres above. Anakeesta Village and AerialQuest are slated to open in May of 2017.
