Sevier County Affordable Housing Crisis Topic of Discussion

The need for more affordable housing in Sevier County will be the focus of a public discussion this week at the King Family Library.

Dick Wellons, director of Smoky Mountain Area Rescue Ministries, will be the guest speaker on the topic of affordable housing at a meeting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 5, 2016 in the Birchfield Room of the Sevier County Public Library, 408 High Street in Sevierville.

“The lack of affordable housing and viable transportation in Sevier County will continue to be a major detriment to the continued growth and economic success of our region,” Wellons said. “We must take a hands on approach and use every possible means to assure immediate creation of adequate and affordable housing.”

Wellons also serves as president of the Tennessee Valley Coalition to End Homelessness and was appointed the Homeless Liaison for Sevier County by Mayor Larry Waters.

Everyone interested in this important topic is encouraged to attend and participate in the discussion. Admission is free and open to the public. The event is sponsored by the Sevier County Democrats.
