Authorities allege a 17-year-old boy brandished a stolen handgun during the attempted armed robbery of a Sevierville convenience store on Friday.
Personnel from Carol’s Corner Market & Grill, located at 2297 Old Newport Highway in Sevierville, called the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office just after 4 p.m. on May 20, 2016 to report an attempted armed robbery. A while male wearing a blue hoodie and dark pants, a bandana on his face, and wielding a handgun reportedly ordered the store clerk to put money in a bag. However, the robber ran out of the store without any money and fled in an older model Ford Explorer after another store employee came out.
Detectives identified the subject using the store’s surveillance video footage and later that evening, officers took the 17-year-old suspect into custody without incident at a location on Lin Creek Road. The investigation also determined that the juvenile is responsible for four vehicle burglaries in the English Mountain/Lin Creek area and it was from one of those burglaries that the juvenile obtained the handgun.
The juvenile is charged with Attempted Robbery, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, 4 Counts Auto Burglary and Criminal Conspiracy. A hearing will be held in Sevier County Juvenile Court at a later date.
All persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
