Keep Sevier Beautiful Needs Volunteers for Plarn Crafting Project

Keep Sevier Beautiful staff and volunteers will be crafting plastic shopping bags into plarn fencing for the upcoming Wears Valley Fall Fest after the group’s committee meeting on Thursday, June 2, 2016. Crafting will begin around 10 a.m. at the Keep Sevier Beautiful office and volunteers may stay for as long as they’d like.

What is plarn?

Plarn is plastic yarn made from plastic grocery bags. Used for craft projects, plarn is a good way to reuse some of the nearly 2 million plastic bags used every minute worldwide.

  • Creating plastic bag fencing, using plarn (plastic bag yarn) promotes reuse of a common waste material, plastic bags.
  • The plastic bag fencing at the Wears Valley Fall Fest will be a visual message about the reality of plastic bag waste and serves a real purpose at the festival, guiding festival attendees to proper entrances, etc.

The Keep Sevier Beautiful office is located in the Sevier Solid Waste Building at 1831 Ridge Road in Pigeon Forge.
