UT Institute of Agriculture Hosting Tobacco, Beef and More Field Day

Beef cattle and tobacco producers should make plans to attend the Tobacco, Beef and More Field Day hosted by the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture.

The field day takes place on Thursday, June 23, 2016 at the Highland Rim AgResearch and Education Center in Springfield, Tenn. Admission is free and registration begins at 7:30 a.m. at the field day assembly area off Oakland Road. Early arrivers can meet with representatives from ag industry and UTIA in the trade show area before the first field tours begin at 8:45 a.m.

Beef tours will cover technology used to increase the herd’s reproductive efficiency, including artificial insemination and pregnancy tests. There will also be presentations on pairing byproduct feeds with forage, as well as an overview of the Veterinary Feed Directive.

Tobacco tours will feature variety developments for both dark-fired and burley tobacco, an overview of dark-fired tobacco curing strategies and updates on tobacco fungicides and insecticides.

Additionally, visitors can take an overview tour of the Highland Rim AgResearch Center. Learn about the Center’s history, the current research taking place here, and its important role in Tennessee agriculture.

The educational tours will conclude at approximately 12:30 p.m. A complimentary lunch will be served following the last tour.

Three pesticide re-certification points can be obtained in categories 1, 4, 10 and 12.
