Sevierville Installs New LED Light Fixtures at Municipal Complex

The City of Sevierville Department of Parks and Recreation has completed installation of new LED light fixtures at the Municipal Complex.

In December 2015, the city requested a TVA audit to determine the feasibility of replacing the fifty high-pressure sodium fixtures throughout the Municipal Complex parking areas with LED light fixtures. The TVA audit was completed in January and auditors estimated the city could save approximately $4,000 per year in utility costs by converting to LED light fixtures.

Stokes Electric was awarded the bid to provide the materials necessary for the conversion in the amount of $25,075. City staff installed the new fixtures and repainted the light poles.

TVA indicated that the $25,075 dollar capital investment would be recuperated in 5-7 years.

Further conversions to LED light fixtures are under consideration or are already being planned. Upgrades to the Community Center lighting system is scheduled for the current fiscal year and estimates indicate the conversion costs could be recouped in as little as one year from energy savings. The city also has two pending grant applications with the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation to replace the high-pressure sodium light fixtures on existing city greenways with LED fixtures. Additionally, all future greenway projects will include LED light fixtures.

TVA also offers a home energy audit to help consumers reduce energy usage and save money.
