Bomb Threat Shuts Down Sevier County Courthouse

The Sevier County Courthouse was evacuated today after someone called in a bomb threat.

A 911 call transferred to Sevier County Sheriff’s Dispatch on Monday morning, Aug. 22, 2016, sent officers, including the Bomb Squad, along with Sevier County EMA, and the Office of Homeland Security into action.

According to Perrin Anderson, communications coordinator for Sevier County, “The caller stated that he had information that ‘someone was going to set a bomb off at the courthouse.'”

Sheriff’s officers investigated and located where the call originated. They went to a home on Richardson Cove Road, where two suspects fled the premises and were pursued by officers.

The courthouse was evacuated and a bomb-sniffing dog utilized in a search of the premises, but no bomb was found. The courthouse reopened at 1:30 p.m.

No other information was available.

This was horrible. And very thoughtless. Many people were frightened by this fake bomb threat. Lots of money and time was wasted. And yet no-one was arrested for this silliness. Why not?
