Help the Good Earth Community Garden on National Planting Day

Celebrate National Planting Day locally on Saturday by helping with the Good Earth Community Garden in Sevierville.

National Planting Day is a Keep America Beautiful initiative to promote community involvement in the local ecosystems by planting species that are native to the area.

In honor of National Planting Day, Keep Sevier Beautiful is having a workday beginning 9 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 9, 2016 at the King Family Library. Volunteers are needed to help update the Good Earth Community Garden there, getting rid of Bermuda Grass that has taken over and adding some soil to make it a hospitable environment in which to grow again. There are also plans to plant a few fruit-bearing trees in the surrounding area.

“National Planting Day is a great way for community members to get out there and get their hands in the soil, while providing positive and lasting effects on our local environment,” stated Lizzie, CAC AmeriCorps member and program coordinator of Keep Sevier Beautiful. “It’s a great way to get involved, and it feels awesome to look back and see the fruits of our labor.”

If you would like to get involved and volunteer to help out this Friday, contact Keep Sevier Beautiful by emailing info@keepsevierbeautiful.org.

The King Family Library is located at 408 High Street in Sevierville, Tenn.
