Keep Sevier Beautiful’s Halloween Costume Swap Set for October

Tired of buying Halloween costumes only to be worn once? Trade a costume for a new to you one at Keep Sevier Beautiful’s fourth annual Halloween Costume Swap. Keep Sevier Beautiful is hosting the annual costume swap as part of its mission to reduce waste and raise awareness to re-use. According to the National Halloween Costume Swap, swapping half the costumes kids wear at Halloween would reduce the landfill waste by 6,250 tons, equal to the weight of 2,500 midsize cars.

“Halloween costumes will sit in the landfill for a long time because they will not decompose,” said Lisa Bryant, executive director of Keep Sevier Beautiful. “Chances are, someone else will want your Halloween costume without them having to go out a purchase a brand new one!”

To participate, bring gently used Halloween Costumes to the Gatlinburg, Sevierville or Pigeon Forge Community Centers during regular business hours. Costumes may also be dropped off between 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. at the Keep Sevier Beautiful office, 1831 Ridge Road in Pigeon Forge. For every donated costume, you will receive a voucher to pick out a new costume at the event. Costumes can be any size – from infant to adult.

If you don’t want to swap a costume you may still donate them. Costumes from recitals, pageants, parties can all be re-used.

The Halloween Costume Swap will be held at the Sevierville Primary School, 1146 Blanton Drive in Sevierville, 9 a.m. – noon on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016. The event will be open exclusively to those who have swapped a costume and present a voucher from 9 – 10:30 a.m. At 10:30 a.m., the event will open to the general public, allowing anyone to purchase a costume for a $5 donation to Keep Sevier Beautiful.
