Georgia Women Killed after SUV Overturns into Little River

Two women died as a result of a single-car accident in Great Smoky Mountains National Park on Sunday after their vehicle crashed and landed upside down in the nearby Little River.

According to park spokesperson Dana Soehn, rangers responded to a reported motor vehicle accident on Little River Road about three miles east of the Townsend Wye just after 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 13, 2016 to find a GMC Envoy had left the roadway and overturned in the Little River. Rural Metro and the Townsend Fire Department also responded to the scene.

Crews found 63-year-old Sandra Gail Freeman dead at the scene of the crash. Rural Metro transported Brenda Joyce Payne, 69, to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville where she later died from her injuries.

Both women were from Gainesville, Ga.
