Grreat Choice, Wellness, Blue Buffalo Pet Foods Recalled Due to Metal Pieces

Pet owners should check a list of pet foods recalled due to contamination with metal pieces that could pose a choking hazard to their pet if eaten.

Certain varieties of Wellness, Blue Buffalo and Grreat Choice pet foods are being recalled as a precautionary measure because they may contain pieces of metal.

PetSmart first announced a voluntary recall of 13.2 oz. cans of Grreat Choice Adult Dog Food with Chicken & Rice Classic Ground on Feb. 9, 2017 after the company received notification from the manufacturer of consumer complaints. The product was sold between Oct. 10, 2016 and Feb. 7, 2017 at PetSmart retail stores nationwide and online at PetSmart.com, Pet360.com, PetFoodDirect.com. Consumers can identify the recalled dog food by locating the UPC 7-3725726116-7 on the product label, and Best By date of 8/5/19 and Lot 1759338 printed on the bottom of the can.

Grreat Choice Pet Foods Recalled“Customers who purchased the recalled food should stop feeding it to their pets and bring any remaining cans to their local PetSmart store for a full refund or exchange,” the retailer advised. For more information about the voluntary recall, customers may contact PetSmart Customer Service at 1-888-839-9638.

On Feb. 10, 2017, WellPet recalled Wellness canned cat food because they were manufactured in the same facility where the metal contamination occurred in Grreat Choice products.

“Keeping your trust in our brand is so important to us, and so we wanted to let you and our retailers know right away,” WellPet said in a release. “Since the products may not have been made consistent with our quality assurance guidelines, we want to replace them. Our Quality team learned that a foreign material was found in non-WellPet products made in the same facility, and so we are taking this conservative step to ensure the well-being of cats and to put our consumers’ minds at ease.”
