Sevier County Health Dept. Helping Parents Talk to Teens About Sex

In honor of Teen Pregnancy Prevention Month, the Sevier County Health Department is holding a workshop about how to talk to teens about sex.

“Teen pregnancy is a problem in our county,” says Olivia Spooner, Sevier County Health Department. “It was named as a top five priority issue in the Sevier County Health Assessment. In 2015, 135 teen girls became pregnant in Sevier County.”

It is not difficult to see why teen pregnancy is a problem; only 40% of teen mothers finish high school. One of the best ways to fight teen pregnancy is by talking to your kids about sex.

The Sevier County Health Department and their Family Planning Nurse Practioner and Health Educator will be hosting an opportunity to discuss how to talk to teens about sex 5–6 p.m. on Monday, May 22, 2017 at the Sevier County Health Department, 719 Middle Creek Road in Sevierville.
