The Sevier County Health Department & UT Extension are partnering to offer the free workshop series Cancer: Thriving and Surviving for cancer patients and survivors.
Cancer: Thriving and Surviving Workshop Series is a free six-week session workshop designed to help individuals or families facing the challenges of cancer. Cancer can strike fear, confusion, and helplessness in individuals diagnosed with the disease, as well as their caregivers. Cancer patients and survivors must deal not only with their disease, but also with the impact on their lives and emotions. A self-management approach to cancer education gives cancer patients and survivors the knowledge, tools and confidence to manage day-by-day.
On Wednesdays, June 28 to August 2, 2017 the Sevier County Health Department and University of Tennessee Extension will be offering the Cancer: Thriving and Surviving Workshop Series to the community from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. The classes will be held at the Sevier County Senior Center. The Cancer: Thriving and Surviving Workshop Series was developed and tested by Stanford University. Workshop topics include healthy eating, problem solving, fatigue, action planning, and fitness, dealing with difficult emotions, decision making, and working with health care professionals. Participants are welcome to bring a family member or caregiver. Pre-registration is required but there is NO cost to attend classes. Participants are encouraged to attend all six sessions. Each participant will receive a workbook, as well as learn local resources.
