Sheriff Cracks Down on Underage Alcohol Sales with Undercover Sting

Clerks at three convenience stores in Sevier County were cited for selling beer to a minor on Tuesday.

Responding to complaints of underage alcohol sales in the Seymour area, the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office Street Crimes Unit conducted an undercover operation on Tuesday, July 4, 2017. In three of eleven establishments tested by officers, the clerk sold beer to an undercover, underage plainclothes officer without verifying their age through ID. The clerks on duty were cited for sale of beer to a minor under the age of 21 and will have court date on August 7 in Sevier County General Sessions Court.

Convenience stores in which the underage alcohol sales occurred:

  • Floyds Market, 12221 Chapman Highway in Seymour
  • Speedway Market, 626 Maryville Highway in Seymour
  • Jimmy’s Market, 2046 Chapman Highway in Sevierville

Seals said his department is concerned about the sale of alcohol to minors and plans to continue undercover operations to combat those illegal sales. Anyone with information about underage sales of alcohol or other similar offences are urged to contact the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office at 865-453-4668.
