Dining with Diabetes Classes Feature Meal Planning, Sampling Diabetic Recipes

The University of Tennessee Extension Office in Sevier County and Sevier County Health Department will be offering Dining with Diabetes Classes Tuesday, August 8 and Thursday, August 10, 2017. The two classes will be held at the Sevier County Health Department beginning at 5:30 p.m. and ending at 7:00 p.m. Dana Partington, Advanced Practice Nurse of Sevier County Health Department, and Linda Hyder, UT Extension, will instruct the program. Dining with Diabetes is open to anyone with diabetes, family members of diabetics or anyone at risk for diabetes.

The classes are designed to encourage participants in making wise food choices. Information will be shared on diabetes including identifying and monitoring carbohydrates, key nutrients needed, analyzing food labels, using artificial sweeteners, exercise and healthy meal plans. Both evening classes will conclude with sampling a diabetic recipe.

There is no charge for Dining with Diabetes, however registration is needed. To register contact Linda Hyder, UT Extension, at 865-453-3695.

Diabetes is serious. However, research has shown that those who manage their blood sugar levels, eat a healthy diet and exercise regularly can lower their risk of complications. Diabetics can lead a healthy and productive life when they manage their disease.
