Seminars to Show Pathway to Free College for Sevier County Students

Sevier County Partners in Progress Education Foundation is hosting three different seminars to provide information to parents and students about the pathway to free college.

If you have a child in middle school or high school and you reside in Sevier County, we invite you to attend one of the following three meetings to learn about free college and how you can take advantage of this opportunity. This is an exciting time for our children, an unbelievable opportunity that is not available in any other surrounding community.

Free College for Sevier County Students Seminars

Choose the seminar that best suits your schedule. It does not have to be in the same location where your child attends school.

• Monday, August 21, 2017 – 5:30 p.m. at Sevierville Community Center, 200 Gary Wade Blvd., Sevierville
• Tuesday, August 22, 2017 – 6 p.m. at Seymour High School, 732 Boyds Creek Highway, Seymour
• Thursday, August 24, 2017 – 6:30 p.m. at Gatlinburg-Pittman High School, 150 Profitt Road, Gatlinburg

The cost of a post-secondary education is skyrocketing – faster than the rate of inflation! This is making it more and more difficult for families to afford a college education. And yet, a post-secondary certificate or degree is becoming the new high school diploma. A post-secondary certificate or college degree is becoming the minimum credential required to get even basic entry-level jobs. Statistics show that college graduates earn more money over a lifetime than those with a high school diploma.

We are fortunate here in Sevierville to have three state institutions of higher learning – Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT); Walters State Community College (WSCC, a two-year institution); and East Tennessee State University (ETSU, a four-year institution). Scholarships are available for our young people to attend any of these schools. The HOPE Scholarship and Tennessee Promise make it possible for our students to attend TCAT and WSCC. After all other scholarships are applied, the Sevier County Partners in Progress Education Foundation is providing up to $2,000 per semester for four semesters for students to attend ETSU in Sevierville. This makes it possible for students to graduate with little or no tuition cost. The Foundation, along with the Sevier County Board of Education and the state dual enrollment grant, are now providing scholarships for up to 8 dual enrollment classes while in high school. A student could get one year of college credit for simply the cost of books.

The entire program from high school thru college graduation will be explained during these meetings. The path to a quality, tuition free education begins as a junior in high school. This program will potentially save your family thousands of dollars. Don’t miss one of these very informative meetings.
