Sevier County Voters to Use New Electronic Voting System and Scanners

Registered voters in Sevier County will use a new electronic voting system during the County Primary Election.

The Sevier County Election Commission replaced their Election Systems & Software (ES&S) brand direct record electronic (DRE) voting systems with the ES&S ExpressVote® Universal Voting System and DS200® precinct-based scanner and tabulator, just in time for the upcoming County Primary Election.

The DRE voting system previously used by the county tabulated votes and printed only a summary of voting data stored in its memory. In the event of a recount, there were no individual voter ballots to recount.

ES&S ExpressVote® Universal Voting System and DS200® precinct-based scanner and tabulatorThe new ExpressVote voting system is a touch screen voting system that allows users to make their candidate selections on screen and then print a paper ballot with their selected candidates. After verifying the paper ballot is correct, the voter inserts it into the scanner to record their vote. The paper ballot drops into a secure bin beneath the scanner.

Voters may view the new voting system at the Sevier County Election Office, 1145 Dolly Parton Parkway in Sevierville.

The County Primary Election will be held Tuesday, May 1, 2018. Early voting opens April 11 and runs through April 26. Early voting locations and hours will soon be announced.

Monday, April 2, 2018 is the last day to register to vote in the County Primary Election. Eligible voters may register online or in person at the Sevier County Election Commission.

The inspection for the Early Vote and Election Day voting machines will be held at the Sevier County Election Commission at 4 p.m. on April 9, 2018. There will be a zero (000) tape available for inspection for every machine.
