Man Tried to Climb in Vehicle Window at Sevierville Traffic Light

Sevierville police say a man was severely injured after falling from a moving vehicle that he attempted to enter while it was stopped at a traffic light early Wednesday morning.

Officers responded to a 911 call reporting an injured pedestrian lying on the shoulder of West Main Street shortly after 7 a.m. on May 23, 2018.

Witnesses told police that a man, identified as 39-year old Chad Bonilla of Pigeon Forge, walked up to a pickup truck stopped at the intersection of West Main Street and Old Knoxville Highway and attempted to climb into an open window on the passenger side.

Kenny Cogan, 18, of Seymour, the driver in the pickup, struggled with Bonilla but was unable to force him back out the window. Cogan drove westbound on West Main Street as Bonilla continued his attempt to enter the pickup through the open window. Bonilla fell from the vehicle after about one mile, near the intersection of Kathern.

Uninjured, Cogan stopped at the scene and waited for police to arrive.

Emergency services transported Bonilla to University of Tennessee Medical Center with severe leg and other injuries. Charges are pending.

All persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
