Authorities Investigating Dead Body Found Near Rural Sevier County Church

The body of an unidentified female was found near a rural Sevier County church early Thursday morning.

According to the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to reports of a body near the corner of Boogertown Road and Oldhams Creek Road in Sevierville about 6:45 a.m. on August 6, 2020.

Officers and emergency medical services arrived and found the body of a deceased female in the grass near the edge of Oldhams Creek Missionary Baptist Church’s parking lot. While the area is rural, with rolling hills where cattle graze and homes built far apart, Boogertown Road is well traveled by both locals and tourists.

Investigators and Sevier County Medical Examiner’s Office also responded to the scene. An autopsy will be performed to determine the female’s cause of death. The investigation is ongoing at this time and no other details are available.
