Sevier County Man Who Allegedly Killed Mother is Captured

A man wanted in connection with the death of his mother and assault of his grandmother in Sevierville has been arrested in Michigan after a two-day manhunt.

According to Chief Deputy Michael R. Hodges, Jr. of the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office, 30-year-old Josh Matthew Carr was located and arrested in Michigan by the Michigan State Police at about 7 p.m. on Friday, September 4, 2020. The arrest comes after an exhaustive, multi-state search and the cooperation of local, state, and federal authorities.

Carr allegedly stabbed his mother, identified as 56-year-old Pam Carr, and injured his grandmother, Anna Faye Matthews, about 5:45 a.m. on Wednesday morning at a residence on Bluff Mountain Road, then fled. Carr’s mother was found stabbed multiple times and later succumbed to her wounds. Carr’s grandmother was treated for non-life threatening injuries sustained in the attack.

Nearby schools went into lockdown Wednesday as officers searched for Carr. On Friday, the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office issued a wanted poster seeking information from the public about Carr’s whereabouts and warned that he should be considered armed and extremely dangerous.
