Tennessee’s Annual Sales Tax Holiday Kicks Off Friday

Whether you are back to school shopping or just looking for a good deal on clothing, shoes, computers and more, the Tennessee Sales Tax Holiday and sales offered by retailers during the 3-day event could mean more money stays in your pocket.

The annual Tennessee Sales Tax Holiday begins at at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, July 27 and ends Sunday, July 29, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. Shoppers will save the tax on certain qualifying purchases. The event is not only for students and their parents who are back to school shopping. It is for anyone within the state buying tax-exempt items from Tennessee retailers, both brick and mortar retailers and orders made through mail order, email, phone and online. Items purchased for business or trade use are not tax-exempt.

What purchases are tax-exempt during the Tennessee Sales Tax Holiday?

Individual items of apparel, pairs of shoes and school supplies priced $100 or less, and computers priced $1,500 or less are all tax exempt. There is no limit to the number of exempt items a person may purchase.
