Girl Scouts of the Southern Appalachians Offers Special Membership Rate

Even though the Girl Scout membership year starts in the fall, Girl Scouts of the Southern Appalachians (GSCSA) is introducing a special prorated offer of $20 per new member, girl or adult, who join January – April. The discounted membership is part of the council’s “Grow Your Troop, Grow the Girl Scout Movement” initiative.

The membership is not available online and must be done over the phone or at a GSCSA Service Center located in Chattanooga, Johnson City, or Knoxville. GSCSA covers 46 counties from southwest Virginia, through eastern Tennessee, and into northwest Georgia. The Girl Scout membership year officially begins in October and normally costs $35.

“My favorite thing about new members is that each girl is given an opportunity to get excited about her future,” said Ashley Smallwood, GSCSA outreach programs manager.

Girl Scouts accepts girls beginning in kindergarten through 12th grade. No matter where girls live or what interests they have, Girl Scouts provides opportunities for them to explore their passions, develop life skills, dive into the world of STEM, discover the outdoors, build key business skills, and much more.

“We have a 106-year track record of creating programming designed for girls based on their development,” said Lynne Fugate, GSCSA chief executive officer. “Girl Scouts are the most equipped with the skills needed to make a real impact. It’s a fact that girls who partake in the all-girl programming provided by Girl Scouts are more than twice as likely to exhibit community problem-solving skills than girls who don’t.”

With more than two million members, Girl Scouting prepares each girl for a lifetime of leadership in a safe, all-girl, girl-led environment.
