Sevier County Piggy Bank Winners Announced, Advance to State Contest

Vote for the Pig! Each year children across Tennessee enter the UT Extension’s Annual Piggy Bank Pageant. This contest begins locally and then culminates into the statewide contest.

In Sevier County, the Piggy Bank Pageant is promoted and sponsored by UT Extension, King Family Library, Tennessee State Bank, Keep Sevier Beautiful, Sevier County Bank, and Sevier County 4-H. This year 105 local students submitted hand-crafted entries, following the state pageant guidelines. On the entry form, students were asked to write down their savings goal. Answers included: Saving $50.00 to go horseback riding, Saving a LOT to get new stuffed animals, and Saving $100.00 just to have money to spend for “ME”. The purpose of the Piggy Bank Pageant is to encourage young people to start saving.

“Young people who make saving a regular habit early in their lives, have a real head start on achieving financial security as an adult,” according to Dr. Berry of UT Extension.

The top two entries of each grade category were determined by local judges. First place winners in each grade category received a check of $25.00 from Tennessee State Bank. The second place winner received a $20.00 check from Sevier County Bank.
