MEDIC Regional Blood Center in Critical Need of Blood Donations

A local blood center that supplies blood to dozens of Tennessee hospitals, including LeConte Medical Center in Sevier County, says the need for blood donations is critical.

Due to an increase in demand, MEDIC Regional Blood Center has less than a two-day supply of O+, O- and A+ blood types.

MEDIC Regional Blood Center has a critical need for:

  • O Positive
  • O Negative, and
  • A Positive blood types

The need is ongoing and nationwide.

Anyone eligible to donate is encouraged to stop by one of MEDIC’s four centers or any blood mobile drive. The schedule can be found at www.medicblood.org.

In light of recent, tragic, events, MEDIC Regional Blood Center would like to remind the community of some important information:

  • The blood used for tragic events and trauma incidents comes from what is currently on the shelf at MEDIC Regional Blood Center that at this point, is a critically low inventory.
  • It takes three days for donated blood to be tested, processed and ready for distribution to local hospitals.
  • MEDIC Regional Blood Center is the provider for blood and blood-related products for 25 hospitals in 22 counties including LeConte Medical Center in Sevier County.
  • Blood donated in our service area stays in our service area

We appreciate your continued support and assistance in providing this information to the community. I am happy to do an interview or it would be great if you can provide this information as an article or in distribution to contacts this week.
