Driver Fled Scene after Running Down Two Children in Sevierville

Two children were struck by a pickup truck while crossing the street in Sevierville Thursday morning and the driver fled the scene.

Sevierville police and fire departments responded to a report of two children being struck by a vehicle near 701 West Main Street just before 7 a.m. on February 20, 2020.

Witnesses told police that a pickup truck traveling west on West Main Street struck the two children as they were crossing the road. After hitting the children, the driver reportedly fled the scene in the pickup truck.

Sevier County Ambulance Service transported both children to the University of Tennessee Medical Center. One child was reportedly in critical condition and the condition of the other child is unknown.

A witness said the children were crossing the busy four lane road to get to their school bus stop. Local residents expressed concern on social media that children would need to cross such a notoriously dangerous road.

Sevierville police and Sevier County Sheriff’s Office investigators are interviewing a possible suspect. Additional information will be released as the investigation progresses.
