Second COVID-19 Death of Sevier County Resident Reported

According to health officials, a second Sevier County resident with COVID-19 has died.

The Tennessee Department of Health reports that out of 2,098 COVID-19 tests performed for Sevier County residents, 58 tests were positive and 2040 were negative. There are two more cases listed as “probable.”

Of the 60 cases among Sevier County residents, 39 recovered and two died. There are currently 19 active cases in the county. The cumulative total of county residents ever hospitalized for treatment of COVID-19 is six.

The first death of a Sevier County resident with the coronavirus was reported on April 17.

Due to privacy reasons, no demographic or identifying information is released about fatalities at the county level.

The health department records testing results by the person’s county of residence, regardless of where the testing was performed.

Visitors tested in Tennessee, but who reside out of state, are listed in the “Out of State” totals. These individuals sought testing or care at a Tennessee facility and may be spending their infectious period in Tennessee. Of the 356 cases in out of state visitors, 134 recovered and five died.

Statewide, the total number of cases among Tennesseans is 13,690, including 13,624 confirmed by test and 66 probable cases. 226 died and 6,356 recovered.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recorded 1,171,510 cases nationwide, 68,279 deaths.
