Sevier County Woman Fatally Shot at Her Home, Person Detained

An elderly woman died Sunday morning after being shot at her Sevier County home.

The Sevier County Sheriff’s Office says officers responded to a 911 call at a residence on River Divide Road about 7:58 a.m. on August 3, 2020 and found a 73-year-old woman suffering from a gunshot wound.

Emergency medical services responded and transported the victim to LeConte Medical Center in Sevierville, where she was pronounced dead.

Officers detained another individual at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.

The identity of the victim and person detained were not released.
